Phagwaar Mohra-UC Dhanwan, AJK
Newly started primary health project by RAHMA Islamic Relief, which will directly benefit at least 40,000 people of UC Dhanwan and the population of adjacent villages in District Kotli, AJK. Outcomes include qualified consultancy by male and female doctors, modern diagnostic equipment ultrasound, ECG, Microlab, medical store, ambulance, antenatal & post natal care, awareness raising & capacity building activities, outreach health screening & medical treatment camps, home visits by LHWs etc. The health situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is not different. AJK is the Pakistan-administered part of Kashmir. According to the World Health Organization, the health conditions of AJK are very poor, owing to poor infrastructure, mountainous terrain, lack of education, scarcity of safe drinking water and being prone to natural and man-made disasters including earthquakes, landslides, floods and war.
Among the most significant problems of AJK are deforestation, soil erosion, depletion and pollution of water resources, unhygienic conditions and precarious sanitation due to scarcity of safe drinking water, lack of latrines and showers. Water-borne diseases including diarrhea, typhoid and Hepatitis are common in the areaThe project area is lacking an immediate access to primary healthcare, laboratory diagnostics and, for this reason, the proposed health intervention has focused on primary care for children, pregnant women and elderly, access to medicines, laboratory testing, safe maternity and public health outreach.
